Ideas
Here are a couple simple plywood stars with white rope light outlining the shape, zip-tied to the wood through some holes. Plywood was heavily painted with multiple coats of black to seal the wood. One was simply bolted onto the center post; on the other, the post was cut in the center and the star slipped inside and bolted through. No how-to is provided since the pictures are self-explanatory.
The post and the topper were constructed out of black PVC with holes drilled in the topper for zip-ties. The zip ties would be looped over the strings to hold the strings up.
